Confirm whether the programme really joins a school classroom
Short-term placement, a language-school junior course, summer school and family study tour have different classmates, management and aims. Ask the receiving school for a written schedule: whether the student joins a normal year-level class, which subjects are available, whether EAL support exists and which activities are run by the school rather than a third party.
Age, English and the southern-hemisphere school year
Schools assess age, year level, English, available dates and capacity; no school is obliged to accept short-stay students in every year. Australian terms do not fully align with Chinese holidays, so check the relevant state or territory term dates and the actual weeks available before applying.
Put guardianship, housing and care in writing
For a minor, the central issue is not a course title but guardianship, housing management, transfers, attendance, medical response, permissions, and emergency contacts. A parent travelling too should confirm daytime arrangements, accommodation registration and who is responsible during school hours; verbal assurances are not a guardianship plan.
Use observable goals for a short experience
Two to four weeks can reveal class participation, listening adjustment, peer interaction and independent-living habits; they cannot promise an exam jump or future admission. Use the same record before and after, such as following daily instructions, completing one group task and explaining when help is needed.
Questions to settle before application
Ask the school or formal provider to set out timetable, staffing, student mix, insurance responsibility, cancellation terms, photo use, dietary needs, allergies and medical process. Recheck visa, entry and school-attendance eligibility through Australian official channels for the actual course, passport and circumstances.
