Rehearse the arrival route before Barcelona
Save three routes offline: airport or station to housing, housing to school, and school to the city centre. Include flight delay, late arrival, large luggage and any unaccompanied minor in the decision; use a school transfer where appropriate.
For Barcelona–El Prat, TMB's L9 Sud serves both airport terminals but does not run directly to the central city; plan the interchange. Aerobus provides the airport-bus connection to Plaça d'Espanya, Universitat and Plaça de Catalunya. Rodalies R2 Nord serves the airport rail station at Terminal 2, so Terminal 1 arrivals need the airport transfer between terminals.
Choose tickets after you know the routine
Do not buy a pass simply because it is available first. Confirm age limits, course-duration requirements, school certification and application location for any student product. For a short stay, single journeys or time-based products may be simpler.
- Compare individual journeys with the period product that matches the actual number of trips.
- Check validation, interchange and zone rules in the operator's current information.
- Keep the physical card or account-recovery details in case it is lost.
Test the commute at the real time
Morning classes, evening classes and weekends can have different frequencies. When selecting housing, search at the actual lesson time rather than the fastest daytime result. Allow a buffer for an interchange, crowding or a disruption, and use TMB service notices rather than social posts for the live network picture.
Plan intercity and weekend travel
For Madrid, Valencia, Girona or other weekend destinations, compare rail and coach operators only after classes and assessments are fixed. Check the fare's change and refund conditions before buying. An overnight trip budget should include accommodation, luggage arrangements and the final return connection—not only the outbound ticket.
Safe habits after landing
Use the official TMB, Rodalies and Aerobus channels for service notices and ticket information; do not follow unknown recharge links. Check the last workable journey before a late evening, keep school and housing emergency contacts available, and store the passport separately from the everyday travel card.
